Classical Photograph (classical photography technique) is the name that has been registered as a trademark by Kumiko Wakabayashi, which mainly covers the following two techniques.

"Van Dyke Brown Print"

Invented in 17th century by court painter Anthony Van Dyke

"Cyanotype Print"

Invented in 1842 by John Herschel in U.K.

 





Workshop courses and how to proceed

Enjoy Your Own Classical Photograph!
There are four workshops in the classical photography class.

In the first and second sessions, you will enjoy creating two different classical photography techniques.

In the third and fourth sessions, you will create your own original work. After completing this course, you can choose the production and exhibition course.


Session 1: Artistic photogram (cyanotype) production

Session 2: Van Dyke print production

Session 3: Creating an original negative

Session 4: Creating an original work

Participation fee: 37,500 yen (tax included) for all sessions 1 to 4

Each session can be individually tailored, but the standard number of participants is three. Please see the content of each course.
1. Artistic photogram (cyanotype) production
Participation fee: 4,000 yen/person (tax included) Approx. 2 hours
Course detail: We use negative film of works by famous artists, such as Vermeer and Van Gogh, to create cyanotype photos (finished in blue).
2. Van dyke brown print production
Participation fee: 5,500 yen (tax included) Approx. 3 hours
Course detail: You will create Van Dyke brown prints (finished in Van Dyke Brown) by selecting from several types of negative films prepared in advance. Each participant will create two prints.

1. Making photographic paper
2. Exposing and developing.
3. Creating original negative
Participation fee: 11,000 yen (tax included) Approx. 5 hours
Course detail: You will practice creating negatives from digital photographs you have taken using the application software Photoshop. We will also provide guidance on selecting the right photographic paper.
4. Creating your original work
Participation fee: 17,000 yen (tax included) Approx. 5 hours

Course detail: You will create works of art using negatives made from digital photographs you have taken using the application software Photoshop. We will provide guidance on how to make photographic paper, print, and complete your work.
